I love a good whiskey sour, and I love it even more when I can have one whenever I want. Now that the weather is getting cooler and we’re going back on lockdown, I figured it was the perfect time to learn how to make one at home. Here is the Liquor.com recipe that I liked.
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 3/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed (I didn’t have a lemon so I used a lime)
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- 1/2 ounce egg white (optional)
- Garnish: Angostura bitters
- Add all ingredients into a shaker and dry-shake without ice.
- Add ice and shake again until well-chilled.
- Strain into a coupe glass.
- Garnish with 3 or 4 drops of Angostura bitters.
How I made it
I am not a bartender nor do I have the training or the tools to make mixed drinks. This means that I had to do my research and improvise in order make cocktails at home. For example..
- I didn’t have a lemon at home so I used a lime. 1 lime/drink
- I didn’t have a cocktail jigger so I used a shot glass. 1 shot = roughly 1 ounce
- I didn’t have a shaker tin so I used my S’well travel coffee mug.
- I didn’t feel like wasting an entire egg so I purchased egg whites from the store. 1/2 shot of egg whites/drink
- I didn’t feel like boiling the simple syrup, so I just mixed the sugar and water until the sugar was fully dissolved.
I loved this recipe, including my edits. The cocktail was tasty and easy to make despite not having the appropriate tools. In fact, I loved making this drink so much that I plan to invest in proper barware tools so that I can expand my mixed drink repertoire.
